Introduction: On Octorber 2nd the students of Grade I  presented an assembly to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi the Father of the Nation. Introducing Gandhi’s life, focusing on important events like his birth, childhood, and his contribution to India’s freedom struggle.

Objectives:

  • Reinforce the principles of non-violence, truth, and peace
  • Embrace the values of non-violence, truth and peace in their daily lives.
  • Highlight Simplicity and Truth
  • Foster National Pride
  • Promote Unity and Respect for All
  • Engage Students Creatively: Through activities like songs, short skits, reciting Gandhi’s quotes, and encouraging active participation of all students in assembly.

Activity Details: On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the students of Grade 1 presented a heartfelt and inspiring assembly to commemorate the life and values of Mahatma Gandhi. The assembly began with the prayer, setting a serene and respectful tone. Followed by Vision, Mission and values of the school. One of the students shared the “Thought of the Day,” which was centered around peace and non-violence, key principles advocated by Gandhiji.

The assembly then proceeded with a beautiful rendition of patriotic music dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi. The atmosphere was filled with sense of pride and reverence for the Father of the Nation.

After the music, the children spoke about Kasturba Gandhi, Gandhiji’s wife, highlighting her role and support in Gandhiji’s journey. The students also shared how Gandhiji struggled tirelessly for India’s freedom, emphasizing his powerful use of non-violence (Ahimsa) as a tool to lead the country towards independence.

Highlights: The highlight of the event was a lively dance performance by the students, choreographed to portray important aspects of Gandhiji’s life and ideals. The children brought energy and emotion to the performance, further deepening the impact of the message they wanted to convey.

Skills Developed:

  • Public Speaking: Confidence in speaking in front of an audience through speeches, recitations or role-play.
  • Collaboration: Teamwork by coordinating with peers in the skit, songs and group dance.
  • Creative Expression: Enhanced creativity through the preparation of skits, posters and creative artwork representing Gandhi’s life and values.
  • Listening and Comprehension: Improved listening and comprehension skills by actively participating and learning from peers’ performances.
  • Leadership: Development of leadership qualities by taking on roles in organizing or leading assembly activities.

Observations:

  • Students were enthusiastic and engaged in all activities, reflecting a good understanding of the topic.
  • The assembly successfully captured the attention of the audience and conveyed the message of non-violence, truth and peace.
  • The participation of students in different roles showcased their ability to take responsibility and execute tasks with confidence.

Conclusion: The audience included the presence of our Academic coordinator, Ms. Puja, Teachers and students of grade I. It was indeed a perfect tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, and it instilled in the young minds a deep appreciation for his enduring legacy.
