Podar Pearl School recently hosted an engaging session on marine conservation in Qatar for students of Grades 6 to 8. The Podar Pearl Marine Society organised the interactive session to help students understand plastic pollution, protect marine life and recognise the environmental challenges facing Qatar’s coastline.

Mr. Jose Saucedo from DEAP Qatar Conservation led the session. Through an engaging discussion, he introduced students to the importance of marine conservation and highlighted the impact of plastic pollution on oceans and marine ecosystems. He also encouraged students to think about how their everyday choices can affect the environment.

Rather than simply listening to a lecture, students actively participated throughout the session. They asked thoughtful questions about biodiversity, marine life and local conservation efforts. In addition, the interactive format encouraged them to share their ideas and reflect on practical ways to reduce plastic consumption.

The session also helped students understand the importance of protecting Qatar’s beautiful coastline. As they explored local environmental challenges, they gained a deeper appreciation for marine ecosystems and the role each person can play in protecting them.

Most importantly, the session inspired our middle school grades 6-8 students to take greater environmental responsibility. It encouraged them to make conscious choices, reduce plastic use and become proactive ambassadors for ocean conservation.

Through initiatives such as the Podar Pearl Marine Society, Podar Pearl School continues to provide students with meaningful opportunities to learn beyond the classroom. By connecting classroom learning with real-world environmental issues, the school aims to nurture responsible, informed and environmentally conscious young citizens who can contribute positively to Qatar and the wider world.
