Introduction and Primary Goal: In celebration of World Heritage Day, Podar Pearl School conducted an Inter-House Clay Modeling Competition for Grade 9 students. The primary goal of this activity was to foster creativity, promote awareness about world heritage sites, and encourage artistic expression among students while learning about the significance of global monuments.
Alignment with School Vision and Mission: The activity reflects the school’s vision of building a purposeful and resilient institution by providing students with opportunities to explore, learn, and express themselves creatively. It also aligns with our mission to nurture academically and personally excellent individuals, capable of becoming global citizens while embodying values like integrity, humility, and care.
Alignment with Round Square IDEALS (Internationalism): This activity directly supported the Round Square IDEAL of Internationalism by encouraging students to explore and appreciate architectural and cultural marvels from around the globe. Through the study and modeling of international monuments, students gained a broader understanding of world heritage, promoting respect and admiration for diverse cultures and traditions.
Overview of the Activity:
- Participants: Grade 9 students from all school houses
- Duration: 45 minutes ( Activity period)
- Materials Used: Clay (various colors), modeling tools, boards, reference images of monuments
- Facilitators: Class teachers and Activity Coordinator
- Judge: Mr. Israr Sheikh ( Year-Coordinator)
Activity Description:
- Introduction: The session began with a brief introduction about World Heritage Day and the importance of preserving historical and cultural monuments. Students were introduced to the theme – “Monuments Around the World.”
- Description: Each student or group chose a monument and worked on a clay model representation of it. Some of the monuments recreated included the Eiffel Tower, Taj Mahal, Burj Khalifa, India Gate, and the Pearl monument. Students showcased impressive detailing and creativity in their models.
- Group Collaboration: Students worked individually or in pairs, supporting each other in shaping, sculpting, and refining their models while discussing the historical and cultural significance of their chosen monument.
- Completion and Collection: Once completed, the models were displayed in the classroom for judging and appreciation. Photos of the models were taken for documentation and school social media platforms.
Outcomes:
- Student Engagement: The students showed enthusiasm, concentration, and a sense of pride in their work. The competition offered a balance of fun and learning.
Community Building (Qatar values and Identity): The activity encouraged cultural appreciation, respect for heritage, and creative teamwork—values that align with Qatar’s emphasis on unity, education, and preservation of global traditions.
