Activity Description:
- Introduction: In celebration of Children’s Day on 14th November 2024, Podar Pearl School introduced a “Bagless Day” initiative, encouraging students to participate in a fun-filled, educational, and creative environment, free from the usual weight of school bags. The event aimed to foster a sense of freedom and creativity, while promoting physical and mental well-being among students. The day was filled with various activities and workshops designed to engage the students in meaningful and enjoyable experiences without the burden of carrying heavy school bags.
- Description: Grade 1 students did an activity on genders. They drew 2 flower pots representing masculine and feminine gender, some examples of them were written on the flowers. Students used palm shaped cutouts as a tool to practice math operations like addition and subtraction. Using an A4 sized sheet of paper, they drew the stem of a tree as the base of their artwork. Finally, they represented the season ‘winter’ using small cotton balls which were creatively stuck onto the branches to depict the snow- covered tree characteristics of winter.
Grade 2 students grasped the concept that multiplication is simply adding the same number multiple times. They were able to perform multiplication problems with ease using stickers as a concrete tool. The visual representation helped solidify their understanding. Students were asked to plant in small pots and observe the growth. The teacher explained the conditions needed for germination, such as water, sunlight, and air. The class observed and documented their plants’ growth over a weeks. The process was explained step-by-step, from seed planting to sprouting, with students recording observations like the appearance of the seed, the development of roots, and the emergence of shoots. Activity related to adjective was conducted where students demonstrated a clear understanding of adjectives and their role in enhancing descriptions. Their vocabulary and ability to construct more vivid sentences improved, making their communication more expressive.
Outcomes: The Bagless Day celebration on Children’s Day at Podar Pearl School was a huge success, offering a refreshing break from the usual school routine. It allowed students to enjoy the day with fun activities, promote well-being, and connect with their peers and the environment in a meaningful way. This initiative helped reinforce the importance of balance between academic responsibilities and the need for play, creativity, and relaxation for student’s development.
